OIL’s Storytelling Series
Living the Best Life in the Bush with Disability.
Real-Life Stories
At Outback Independent Living (OIL), we believe that everyone has the right to thrive—no matter where they live. Our new storytelling video series, "Living the Best Life in the Bush with Disability," captures the strength, independence, and resilience of people with disability in remote Queensland.
Through these real-life stories, produced in partnership with BushTV, we celebrate the individuals who are shaping their own futures, breaking barriers, and proving that life in the bush is full of possibilities.
Adam Ballard
A Local Legend with a Heart of Gold
Adam Ballard is a familiar face around town—from working on the race track to volunteering at the local rugby club and even hitting the airwaves on 4LG radio! Living with Williams Syndrome hasn’t stopped Adam from becoming a pillar of the Longreach community.
Daisy Walton
Creativity & Confidence
Daisy Walton, a proud First Nations woman, is redefining independence in Longreach. Despite living with visual impairment, she paints, swims, and continues to learn new skills—from long cane walking to Braille training. Daisy’s story is a testament to the power of self-determination and community support.
Jacques Jacobie
Pushing Boundaries
After a spinal cord injury left Jacques Jacobie with paraplegia, he faced one of the toughest challenges of his life. But instead of giving up, he found new ways to adapt, contribute, and inspire others. From working in Longreach to pushing 29km in his wheelchair to raise funds for a friend, Jacques is a true testament to strength and perseverance.
